About RANA

The Rockbridge Area Network Authority was created by Rockbridge County, Lexington and Buena Vista cities, and Washington & Lee University in 2009 to promote and provide high-speed communication infrastructure for the area localities.

An open-ditch policy was approved by the area localities to aid the Authority on new fiber installations.

The Authority consists of five members, representing the jurisdictions of Rockbridge County, the City of Lexington, the City of Buena Vista, Washington and Lee University, and the larger business community.

The Authority has a policy of open use, giving all service providers an equal opportunity to use the network.

No services to end users will be provided by RANA: The Authority provides the network for other (private) service providers to use.
