Internet

The high speed, broadband network that is proposed to be built in Rockbridge County, Lexington and Buena Vista will provide residents throughout the Rockbridge area access to services that are popular throughout the U.S. and the world. These services are delivered over the Internet. It is important to realize that most or all require very high data rates, or high "bandwidth."

Rockbridge residents who connect to the Internet via cable or DSL or even two-way satellite can access these services today. However, these services either are not available or do not function properly on low speed networks or dial-up connections. Here are some of services available on the Internet over a high speed, broadband network such as the one the Rockbridge Area Network Authority intends to provide:

Internet
Television
File Backups
Telephone
Medical Monitoring
Games
